I’m Jonathan Koh
I first started teaching ESL (English as a Second Language) in 2003. In 2012, I decided to specialize in IELTS Exam preparation and then soon after that PTE Exam Preparation and thus started my own IELTS & PTE Exam Preparation school – IELTS University and PTE University.
My Studies and English Teaching Qualifications
I graduated with a degree in Politics and Development Studies in Australia and Canada and in 2007 I got a University of Cambridge CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults), which is one of the most prestigious ESL teaching qualifications in the world. Since then, I have accumulated extensive teaching experience in various international settings, enhancing my skills in diverse classrooms. I’m committed to providing high-quality education and support for language learners, ensuring they achieve their goals. Since then, I have dedicated myself to teaching English to non-native speakers in various educational settings. My experience includes working at esteemed institutions where I had the opportunity to implement innovative teaching strategies, such as the waterloo centre classroom overview, which emphasizes a collaborative learning environment. This approach has not only improved student engagement but also enhanced their language acquisition skills significantly.
In 2008, I started studying for my Master of Education (M.Ed.) in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). However, I decided not to continue this degree because my teaching business was growing at that time – and I realized that a Master’s degree didn’t necessarily make me a better teacher (see below).
My Unique PTE & IELTS Teaching Materials
As I taught PTE & IELTS more and more, I thrived on the challenge of creating better teaching materials than I found in PTE / IELTS textbooks. I didn’t particular like a lot of material I found in many coursebooks. That was how I started creating a lot of my unique PTE & IELTS teaching materials – especially my PTE / IELTS Essay Templates.

Throughout my time teaching PTE & IELTS, I’ve helped 450+ of my students pass their PTE / IELTS exams – click here to read the testimonials. I’ve been a partner of IDP IELTS (one of the co-owners of the IELTS organization) since 2016. My school – IELTS University – is one of the first schools they refer IELTS exam takers because they trust my teaching and I’ve also taught some of their classes many times for them.
Partnership with Immigration Consultants / Agents all over the world
Because of my teaching and the results of my students, I’ve also had many partnerships with various Immigration Consultants or Agents in Singapore and all over the world. Many have referred their clients to me because I’ve been able to help many of them pass their PTE & IELTS exam. I’ve also taught various PTE & IELTS classes for some Immigration companies.
PTE & IELTS Teacher Training – Teaching other IELTS teachers
As a result of my many years of experience teaching PTE & IELTS, many teachers have approached me to help them with their PTE / IELTS teaching. Also, a number of organizations have asked me to conduct PTE / IELTS Teacher Training courses and this is something I’m starting to do more regularly as I love to start sharing with people the strategies I use to help students improve their PTE & IELTS scores.
